Take the stress out of planning your Bayfield getaway. On the blog, you'll get the inside scoop of where to go, what to see, and what to do.
The other night I was in the middle of cooking dinner when I realized I forgot the buns for chicken sandwiches. I quickly jumped in the car and drove down to Andy’s Grocery Store in downtown Bayfield, WI.
My mind was racing 100 miles per hour.
I was thinking about getting dinner on the table, unpacking and repacking backpacks, and questioning whether the boys really needed a bath before bedtime.
But as I started to drive down the hill of Rittenhouse Avenue, I couldn’t help but gasp…
This scene was something out of a Hallmark movie.
The only store lights on were the grocery store. The town was quiet, and there I stood for a moment in my sweatpants and Ugg boots, taking it all in before heading into the grocery store.
It was magic.
I’m Mollie, I co-own Seagull Bay with my husband Isaac. We know firsthand the craziness the holiday season can bring. But what if you take a different approach to the holidays this year and spend a weekend strolling the enchanting streets of Bayfield, WI?
This week’s blog will help you plan a weekend you won’t forget when you step outside your normal routine and experience Bayfield, WI, during the holidays.
Picture yourself walking the cozy streets of Bayfield. You’re dressed in a long puffy jacket, matching scarf, and furry winter boots – bouncing in and out of one-of-a-kind shops.
Or imagine sipping an artisan cocktail at The Copper Crow Distillery with rosy cheeks after hiking one of Bayfield’s many trails.
Maybe you want to kick off your shoes and slide into slippers at Superior Body & Massage for the Ultimate Relaxer.
Sometimes we’re so busy thinking about what’s next that we forget to see what’s right in front of us. We forget to pause and see the lights.
To help you take a step back and unwind, I’m sharing 5 ways you can immerse yourself in the spirit of the holidays – even if only for a weekend.
Plan to dine at Good Thyme Restaurant in Washburn, WI. This restaurant has been one of our favorites for quite some time. We got married here – outside under the pergola.
As soon as you walk through the century-old doors of this classic farmhouse, you can feel the warm and relaxing vibe.
The crackle from the wood-burning brick fireplace invites you to sit back and relax at one of the tables dressed in white linen or bump elbows with the locals at the copper-top bar.
The menu is filled with artisan dishes and local fare. Whether you order their infamous rib-eye or the fish fry, you’ll be surrounded by good food, happy people, and a scrumptious meal.
Start off your Saturday morning with a blissful vibe. Reserve your mat for Subtle to Strong Yoga with Darcy Scherwin at Blu Studio + Wellness in downtown Bayfield, WI.
Darcy (RYT-200 and FNTP) will guide you through a yoga and meditation practice with just the right mix of feel-good and challenging postures.
This light-hearted yoga session welcomes people who practice at all levels. It has the mat and all the props you’ll need to start your day off by connecting to you.
Looking for the ultimate relaxing weekend? Superior Body & Massage has an extensive menu of spa treatments for you to choose from. Anna Johnson and her friendly staff will welcome you into a truly relaxing space where you can get the full spa experience.
Melt away under a hot stone massage, inhale soothing essential oils during a steamy facial, or detoxify your body in the infrared sauna after yoga.
Or sit back during a pedicure after spending the day shopping along the historic streets of Bayfield. Here you can forget your to-do list and spend an hour or so in the moment.
This place is just downright cool. The Copper Crow Distillery opened its doors a few years ago and sits on the edge of the Red Cliff Indian Reservation just outside of Bayfield, WI.
This Native American-owned distillery is the first of its kind in the United States. It’s the perfect place to warm you from the inside out with one of their mouth-watering cocktails after hitting one of Bayfield’s winter hiking trails.
Cozy up to a table made with wood from an old bowling alley inside a black whiskey barn, and sip on a decadent bloody mary, an old-fashioned, or the Nor’ Easter.
Kurt and Linda Basina have created an extensive menu to suit any palate. Cheers!
As your holiday weekend comes to an end, savor the last little bits of Bayfield Holiday magic at Wonderstate Cafe.
Bask in the morning sun in the corner booth while drinking your favorite roast or their made-in-house chai.
Order a melt-in-your-mouth scone from the pastry case to pair with your beverage. For a more savory flare, consider the bagel with smoked salmon lox, cream cheese, capers, and pickled onions.
Share your weekend highlights and live in the moment of a slow Sunday morning before heading back to the city.
When you look out from your room at Seagull Bay in December, the water carries a bluish-gray hue. The waves lapping onto the shore are lined with skim ice, and the cool crisp air is invigorating.
Combine this with the beautifully decorated streets of Bayfield, WI, on Lake Superior to discover a small-town holiday weekend – where you can revel in the peace and joy of the season.
