I have a crush on one of our guests!

Don’t worry there’s no scandal, and Isaac is fully aware. 

Every year in July, we welcome one of our most beloved guests, Jim. Jim and his family have been coming to Seagull Bay in Bayfield, Wisconsin, for generations – long before Isaac and I purchased Seagull Bay in 2017.

Jim and his family book the cottage year after year and spend about two weeks with us. His family – including his children and grandchildren – come and go as their schedules allow during that time. It’s become their family tradition to visit Bayfield and stay at Seagull Bay.

Since 2017, Isaac and I have had the pleasure of getting to know Jim and his family. In fact, whenever I see him he gives me a kiss on the cheek. And he’s always there to support and encourage us.

This has been my favorite part of owning a motel in Bayfield, Wisconsin, on Lake Superior. We get to know guests like Jim, Connie, Preston, and others who have made Seagull Bay a part of their family traditions.

This is why we’re motivated to continue to update, renovate, and elevate your vacation experience. Here are some things we’ve been working on and what’s new in 2024.

Some of you may have already noticed our website got a makeover.

When we purchased Seagull Bay in Bayfield in 2017, we quickly put together a website, and thankfully it has served us well. But since that time, a lot has changed. We’ve…

• Painted inside and out
• Remodeled
• Added air conditioning
• Purchased The Brownstone Cottage
• Had more kids

So it was time to update our website and improve the navigation to create an improved user-friendly experience online.

We’ve added new photos, provided more details on how you can create the ultimate Bayfield getaway, and highlighted all three of our Lake Superior properties.

We continue to blog, providing you with engaging stories of Bayfield and all the local tips you need to plan your vacation.

We’ve added something new to help you plan. Check out our Seasonal Adventure Guide. This informative download gives you sample itineraries and ideas on things to do in Bayfield, Wisconsin – no matter what season it is.

But our website isn’t the only thing that’s getting a makeover.

The Guest House is Getting a Makeover Too!

Starting in the winter of 2024, we’re remodeling our guest house located on the Seagull Bay Motel Property.

For the last few years (during our quiet season), we’ve picked out a few rooms or a building to fully remodel while maintaining the old-school charm and modern vibe we want you to feel when you stay with us at Seagull Bay.

We’re still in the process of narrowing down all of our ideas and plans for this space. But I promise all of our plans enhance its best feature – the sweeping view of Lake Superior.

The Guesthouse will include:

• Clean and modern design
• New furnishings
• Statement light fixtures
• New appliances 

…and more. Just imagine relaxing on your private deck with a gin and tonic in hand, watching the Madeline Island Ferry cross the bay.

We promise to keep you updated on our progress and this big reveal coming in the spring of 2024.

What You Can Expect in Bayfield, Wisconsin, in 2024

No matter what time of year you visit Bayfield and the Apostle Islands, you can find something to soothe your soul and stir your imagination.

Some things you may want to keep in mind as you start planning your trip in 2024 are:

• Mt. Ashwabay’s 40 km of wooded and groomed cross-country ski trails. There’s snow-shoeing and fat biking too.

• Mountain biking trails usually open around mid-May. Hiking trails are open year-round.

• Big Top Chautauqua folds back the tent flaps starting in June, where you can attend an outdoor concert with world-renowned musicians.

• Strawberries are usually ready for picking around the 4th of July, followed by cherries, raspberries, and blueberries. Apple picking starts mid-late September.

• Festival the Arts & Gallery Tours in the second weekend in September.

• The Bayfield Apple Festival is the first full weekend in October.
