Every year Isaac and his friends get together to celebrate S.C.A.T. – The Scabies Carrier Awareness Tournament. And yes, this is a real thing, but it’s not what you think.

A few years ago, Isaac had a mysterious rash that turned out to be poison ivy. But at one time, the doctors thought it might be scabies. When Isaac’s friends got a hold of this information, they ran with it.

Every year they get together for a weekend of golf at Apostle Highlands Golf Course in Bayfield. And on this particular year, one of Isaac’s friends gave a lengthy speech to bring awareness to a dear friend’s illness. Little did Isaac know who they were talking about. It wasn’t until after the t-shirts were handed out that Isaac realized the joke was on him!

Apostle Highlands Golf Course

The Apostle Highlands Golf Course sits about 500 ft above our little town of Bayfield, Wisconsin. It’s a par 72, 18-hole golf course.

This public golf course not only challenges you on the green but its panoramic views are hard to beat. Enjoy the classic beauty of:

The Apostle Highlands Golf Course covers 250 acres of prime Bayfield real estate. It features three sets of tees for players of all levels, measuring 5,127 yards to 6,332 yards.

This hilly course offers challenges from its rolling terrain, tree-lined fairways, and greens. Water also comes into play on eight of its holes, including a pond shaped like Lake Superior.

Whether you stick to the driving range or play all 18 holes, the full-service clubhouse and patio are the perfect place to relive an amazing drive on the fairway, a spectacular putt, or the injustice of the northern Wisconsin landscape.

Madeline Island Golf Club

The Madeline Island Golf Club is a semi-private golf course on the largest of the 22 Apostle Islands.

This Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed golf course features tees that are very player friendly at 4,381 yards to its longest tee at 6,356 yards.

The Madeline Island Golf Club boasts:

• Double greens
• Dog legs in opposite directions
• Beautiful forests
• Rolling topography
• Magnificent Lake Superior views

This course is professionally designed and sits on an island on one of the world’s greatest lakes. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. has been famously quoted as saying, “The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.” Despite the claim, the sunsets here are absolutely captivating. What more could you ask for?

Not a member? Don’t worry! Public play is allowed by scheduled tee time only with the Madeline Island Golf Club Pro Shop.

To get here, you’ll need to take the Madeline Island Ferry, a five-minute drive from Seagull Bay. The Ferry is a 22-minute ride to the town of Lapointe, and the golf course is a short drive from the dock.

Planning the Ultimate Golf Getaway

We want to offer you a few tips to help you plan your ultimate Bayfield, Wisconsin golf getaway, so you can stay focused on your game.

First, schedule your tee time in advance – especially during the high tourist seasons, June – August. The Apostle Highlands Golf Course is a public course and may be able to offer you an open tee time at the last minute. But the semi-private Madeline Island Golf Club allows public use by scheduled tee time only.

If you’re interested in golfing at the Madeline Island Golf Club, you’ll need to also be aware of the Madeline Island Ferry schedule so you can arrive on time for your scheduled tee time.

We suggest arriving 20 to 30 minutes prior to your tee time so you can rent your golf cart and a set of clubs if needed. The clubhouse is also a great spot to replace any forgotten or damaged items.

Here’s the important thing: GPS directions to the Apostle Highlands Golf Course from Bayfield are inaccurate.

The easiest way to access the golf course from Seagull Bay is to travel one mile south on Highway 13 and take a right onto County Highway J. Follow J for a half mile until you see a large blue sign for the Apostle Highlands Golf Course. Take a right and follow the switchback road to the clubhouse.

Both courses have individual policies you should also be aware of, including:

• Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the courses per Wisconsin state law
• Specific dress codes
• The number of players allowed per tee time
• Policies in case of rain
• The pace of play
