Our 6 Favorite Restaurants in Bayfield, WI This Summer

“Where should we eat?” is a question we get all the time at Seagull Bay. And as someone who loves good food, finding good eats is one of the first things I do when traveling with my husband and boys.

I’m Mollie, co-owner and host at Seagull Bay. These days, with three boys under seven years old, my search prioritizes fast and family-friendly. But when I have the chance to indulge in something special, here are some of the things I look for:

  • An exciting menu
  • Outdoor seating
  • Live music
  • Unique decor
  • A relaxing atmosphere

You’ve already spent so much time planning your Bayfield Vacation – picking dates, reserving your room, and planning things to do. Let us help you find places to eat during your visit.

We’re sharing our six favorite restaurants in Bayfield, WI to eat at this summer. These restaurants boast farm-to-table dishes, outdoor seating, and tantalizing flavors. Our list is geared towards the best restaurants in Bayfield where you can sit back, relax, and connect.

Seagull Bay’s Go-to Restaurants in Bayfield, WI

Our go-to restaurants in Bayfield are fuss-free and geared toward the traveler who is ready to sit down, dig in, and indulge in local flavors.

The Copper Trout

The Copper Trout is one of our favorite restaurants. This light and airy cafe is a 10-minute walk from Seagull Bay in the old Stark building – Bayfield’s General Store in the early 1900s.

Its Italian-American menu features locally-sourced ingredients like:

  • Fresh caught fish out of Lake Superior
  • Seasonal berries grown just outside of Bayfield
  • Wild mushrooms foraged from County and National Forests

These fresh ingredients are the star in dishes like Wild Mushroom Pasta and Wild Trout Madeline.

Here you’ll also find hand-tossed pizzas like the Asparagus Fontina Pizza, made with prosciutto and garlic-infused olive oil.

The Copper Trout is open seasonally from mid-May through mid-October and is open for dining from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

The Pier Plaza

The Pier restaurant in Bayfield, WI.

The Pier Plaza Restaurant is located on Bayfield’s Waterfront. This corner of Bayfield has served food to fishermen and tourists since 1937.

The original building was a log cabin where the Gonia family handed out box lunches to commercial fishermen and ice to pack the fish boxes brought in from Lake Superior.

In 1954, this location was home to the A&W, a popular hangout for Bayfield teens. But continued to serve as Bayfield’s troll fishing headquarters.

In 1962, the Johnson family purchased the A&W, later turning it into The Pier Plaza, a diner-style family restaurant. The Johnson family continues to serve food and beverages to locals, fishermen, and tourists alike.

We love The Pier because it’s operated by a family driven to serve our community. Its location offers lakeside seating with spectacular views of the Bayfield City Dock and Madeline Island.

The Pier menu is filled with classic American dishes – but with a modern twist.

Juicy burgers. Hand-cut rib eyes. And a mouth-watering protein bowl with quinoa, black beans, maple sweet potatoes, scallions, and white barbecue sauce.

The Pier is also home to one of the top 10 Wisconsin fish fries. There’s nothing more Northern Wisconsin than this.

The Pier’s open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. They offer outdoor seating and are dog-friendly. However, they don’t take reservations.

Superior Taco Truck at Howl Adventure Center

Tacos at The Superior Taco Truck in Bayfield, WI.

The Superior Taco Truck at Howl Adventure Center is quickly becoming a local favorite.

This taco truck elevates classic Mexican dishes in the lawn outside of Howl and Adventure Club Brewery.

For tacos, you get to pick from fresh-caught Lake Superior whitefish, yams, or pulled pork. And they’re topped with delicious queso, pickled veggies, or fresh slaw.

The burrito bowl features cilantro lime rice, homemade guacamole, pickled onions, salsa, and sour cream. And it’s perfect for sharing. And let’s not forget the Loaded Tots. Pulled pork, queso, and jalapenos are generously piled on top of streaming hot tator tots.

Pair this with your favorite microbrew from Adventure Club and enjoy the outdoor seating. This is the perfect place for the laid-back adventurer who loves good food, good beer, and good friends. Open Thursday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Mouthwatering Restaurants in Washburn, WI

Just a short 10-minute drive from Seagull Bay, Washburn is sometimes considered the pass-through town to get to Bayfield. But don’t be fooled. Within this small town are two of our all-time favorite restaurants. A wood-fired pizza place that’ll blow your socks off and a restaurant where Isaac and I celebrated one of the happiest moments of our lives.

DaLou’s Bistro

Wood-fired pizza coming out of the oven

Time and time again, if you ask a local what their favorite restaurant is, there’s a good chance they’ll say DaLou’s in Washburn. DaLou’s is a wood-fire, Italian-inspired bistro that’s truly a labor of love of its owners Dale and Lois.

For over 30 years Dale has been honing his culinary skills. And with “Louie’s” deep love of baking, they have created a marriage of “dalectable” flavors featured throughout their menu.

  • Wood-fired pizzas
  • Paninis
  • Wood-fired pastas
  • Artisan gelato, pastries, and mouthwatering desserts

DaLou’s is a unique neighborhood bistro that offers affordable and high-quality food to the Chequamegon Bay area.

They’re open Tuesday through Saturday 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. offering counter service for takeout or seating within their quaint, Italian-style bistro.

Good Thyme

As I mentioned, Good Time Restaurant holds a special place for me and Isaac. It’s here, in January 2016, where we exchanged vows and shared a delicious brunch with our friends and family after a small winter ceremony.

Good Time Restaurant in Washburn, Wisconsin is located in the big yellow house less than 10 minutes from Seagull Bay.

Its warm atmosphere featuring chocolate and copper decors is rich and inviting – just like its menu. Artisan dishes fusing flavors from around the world with modern American cuisine.

  • Mussels drowned in a creamy garlic and white wine sauce with capers
  • Their infamous Double-Smashed Cheeseburger
  • Hand-cut steaks
  • Curried salmon

…are a few of the most popular dishes found on their menu. You’ll also find gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options.

Good Time is open Thursday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are recommended, but you must call as online reservations are not available.

The Fat Radish – A Farm-To-Table Restaurant in Cornucopia, WI

The Fat Radish Restaurant in Cornucopia, Wisconsin is a 30-minute drive from Seagull Bay and well worth the miles.

The Fat Radish is known for following the #slowfoodmovement where they believe good food takes time. They are proud to feature fresh, local, and sustainable farm-to-table dishes.

Owners, Dan and Patty Holman seek out local farmers, creameries, and fishermen to inspire a menu that is eclectic and rich in flavor. Menu items like:

  • Piedmont Roasted Bone Marrow
  • Wild Blue Meatloaf
  • Dan’s Fish Booyah

…and a variety of plant-based dishes will give you a culinary experience you’ll never forget.

The Fat Radish also features Sunday brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., complete with live music and a full bar.

Dinner is available Friday and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and reservations are recommended. Follow them on Facebook for updated and expanded hours over the summer.
