Take the stress out of planning your Bayfield getaway. On the blog, you'll get the inside scoop of where to go, what to see, and what to do.
Someone from our team recently asked me what my favorite part of our newest remodel is. My honest answer?
“When it’s over!”
All joking aside, when I step back and take a breath from the never-ending painting of trim, I can’t help but be captivated by the breathtaking view of Lake Superior outside our newly remodeled rooms.
Looking southeast toward Madeline Island and Long Island, with the occasional lone fisherman in Chequamegon Bay, I’m reminded of why Isaac and I started this journey: to raise our family in his hometown, close to family, while creating the best place to stay in Bayfield, WI.
And while I’m enamored with the custom-made vanities and the pink mini-fridges (I just can’t get enough of them!), it’s the view that keeps us motivated.
Since 2017, Isaac, our family, and an incredible team have worked tirelessly to update our 1940s lakeside motel. Over the last four winters, we’ve tackled one room at a time, bringing new life to the space.
We’ve said goodbye to the:
And we’ve enthusiastically welcomed a minimalistic mid-century modern aesthetic that enhances our room’s best feature: its incredible views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands.
Rooms three through ten are tucked beneath the main building, just below our office. These rooms are only a few steps from our front lawn, offering a front-row seat to Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands.
As you stroll from the parking lot, the sidewalk naturally draws your eyes toward a sprawling view of Chequamegon Bay.
You’ll catch a glimpse of the south channel between Madeline Island and Long Island, the Long Island Lighthouse, and the city of Ashland across the bay.
The view is framed by the curve of the eastern shoreline, lush trees, and a nearby marina.
Patio lights twinkle across the lawn, and picnic tables and chairs invite you to sit back, relax, and take in the view.
As you settle on our front lawn, the noises of everyday life melt away. Instead, the sound of birds chirping, the rustling of leaves, and the distant hum of a fisherman’s motor set the tone for your stay.
Here, under the oak trees, you can take a deep breath and plan your next adventure.
This is your escape, and it’s all right outside the door of our newest remodel.
Pull down the brushed gold handle to open the door to your room and notice the soft sea glass blue that adorns the trim, doors, and wainscoting. This color, a Benjamin Moore classic, flows seamlessly from room to room.
Each of these rooms is designed to take full advantage of the view.
Soft grays in the carpeting, bathroom floors, and countertops highlight the warm wood accents and create a relaxing space. Gold globe light fixtures hang above the queen and king-sized beds, offering just the right amount of light for reading at night.
A marbled-top table with a gold pedestal and rattan and boucle upholstered chairs invites you to relax, sip your morning coffee, and watch the sunrise over Madeline Island.
This carefully curated design isn’t just about style—it’s about creating a place to stay in Bayfield that invites you to unwind and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Now, let’s dive into the details that make these rooms truly special.
There are three types of rooms included in this remodel. All are located on the lower lawn level of Seagull Bay:
What sets these rooms apart? Here are a few details that elevate each space.
First, the mini-fridges. I’m in love with the adorable pink mini-fridges from Frigidaire. Standing against sea glass blue walls offers a charming retro touch.
Next, the custom vanities. Our friends at St. Germain’s Cabinet’s out of Duluth, MN built each vanity to maximize space, with clean, modern lines, gray and white marbled countertops, and chrome fixtures.
Another one of Isaac’s genius ideas includes handcrafted wooden accents. Wooden partitions and beams add warmth and personality to each room.
And I can’t forget to tell you about the 1960s-style bedside tables. These add a nostalgic yet modern vibe to the room—think vintage chic, but updated.
We’re so happy with how this remodel came together and are thrilled to share these rooms with you.
