What are you thankful for?

Despite it being the quiet season in Bayfield, Isaac, and I continue to be busy raising our three boys.

We’re scheduling our day around:

• School pick-up and drop-off times
• Meals, snacks, and more snacks
• Running our business at Seagull Bay – Lakeside Motel

The slower pace in November gives us time to reflect on the year we’re about to wrap up.

There is so much to be thankful for in 2022, and we hope you feel the same.

Before we enter the holiday season and get caught up in all the excitement it brings, we want to take a moment and express how thankful we are to be:

• Raising our three boys in a town we love
• Surrounded by family and friends
• Sharing it all with you, our wonderful guests

Here are 10 things we’re thankful for in 2022.

1. Bayfield

It all started with a basketball and a milkshake.

The story of how Isaac’s Grandma Sue caught the eye of Isaac’s Grandpa Dick goes like this.

Dick served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Bayfield in 1954. He was walking past Sue on the sidewalk while dribbling a basketball. Sue knocked the basketball out of his hand causing him to take a second look at the girl who tried to steal his ball.

After this encounter, he found her working at the A&W making milkshakes. Grandpa Dick quickly became a regular customer and their love story began. They married in August 1955.

Now, 67 years later, Isaac and I are surrounded by four generations of Carriers living and working in Bayfield Wisconsin.

2. The Bayfield Weather

With the help of Lake Superior, Bayfield enjoys a comfortable and temperate climate during the summer months. The clean clear emerald waters of Lake Superior act as a natural air conditioner keeping the average summer temperatures in the 70s.

On the flip side, Bayfield winters can be cold and snowy. But without them, we wouldn’t be blessed with an abundance of winter activities to shake off our cabin fever.

During the winter months, we enjoy activities like dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country, and downhill skiing. So yes, we’re grateful for Bayfield winters.

3. We’re grateful for you, our guests.

Because of you, we celebrated our 5th year at Seagull Bay Lakeside Motel in June.

We love meeting you and sharing our beautiful town and Lake Superior adventures with you.

4. We would be lost without our employees and student workers.

Some of our employees have been with us since the beginning. Paul, Penny, Alex, Susie, and Grandma Sue – we can always count on you to help us greet and serve our guests.

We’re thankful for our seasonal workers and student workers from Turkey. We couldn’t make it through the busy summer season without them.

5. We’re thankful for the completion of the phase one Bay West remodel.

It’s been no small feat turning this one-time single-family home of Bayfield’s last door-to-door milkman into a comfortable space for our guests.

Isaac, his dad, and others worked tirelessly last spring to update several of the guest rooms in Bay West. And they also added a family suite inspired by modern Scandinavian design.

6. Banks Emmanuel Carrier

Isaac and I were blessed to welcome our youngest son, Banks, in February 2022. Along with his two older brothers, Axel and Ridge, we’re blessed to have this family we call our own.

7. Kindergarten

This year our family reached a milestone by sending our oldest son Axel to kindergarten. We’re excited about entering this new stage of parenting with our boys and love watching Axel’s two younger brothers try to keep up with him.

8. Our Home

This past spring Isaac and I were fortunate enough to buy a new home just outside of Bayfield with more room for our growing family.

Like most of the country, Bayfield has experienced a housing boom with people from all over wanting to live in this beautiful little town. We’re grateful to continue to do so and from a little larger space.

9. Family and Friends

We wouldn’t be able to raise our family and run our business without the family and friends that surround us.

From childcare to play dates, date nights, and golf tournaments, our life would not be as rich and full of love if it wasn’t for our family and friends.
